Reliance Jio To Launch 4G VoLTE-Enabled Feature Phones Priced At Rs 999 And Rs 1,500 Soon
Reliance Jio is reportedly planning to launch feature phones with 4G VoLTE support, priced between Rs. 999 and Rs. 1,500. At least two such low-cost Reliance Jio VoLTE feature phones are said to be planned by the company, which will come with bundled free voice calls and other services.
These handsets are likely to feature front and rear facing cameras and could come bundled with Reliance Jio apps such as Live TV, JioChat and video-on-demand. There company may also include its digital wallet, Jio Money, in the feature phones to encourage cashless payments, but clearly the Reliance Jio seems to be banking on VoLTE HD voice calling support and video content as the Unique Selling Point (USP) of these feature phones. Also, the free unlimited voice and video calling, unlimited SMS and unlimited high-speed 4G access bundled with the feature phones is likely to be a key for their success.
Two 4G VoLTE feature phones by Reliance Jio are said to be in the offing at present. However, there is no clarity on the launch timeline of these devices.
If you’re confused as to why Reliance Jio’s launching inexpensive “feature” VoLTE phones with 4G connectivity and not a clear cut Android smartphone, it’s because over 65% of India’s 1 billion strong mobile phone devices market is still dominated with cheap, inexpensive feature phones.
However, the current Reliance Jio Happy New Year Offer – which provides free calls, data, and other services – expires on March 31, 2017. Therefore, Reliance Jio will have to launch these VoLTE feature phones ahead of the deadline to get feature phone users on its network with all the incentives.
